I placed the speaker and my PC microphone in a box, like this:-



I then closed the lid and hit record on the PC and spoke a few lines into the ROM/FX microphone:-



This cuts down on background noise and stops the PC microphone picking up my voice directly, so all you hear is what is coming out of the ROM/FX speaker. Crude, but effective and a true reflection of what you'll hear in a real world situation.
